Seedlings up and running

Our first seedlings have poked their way into the world, taking advantage of this amazingly warm stretch of weather. The ones in the picture are purple sprouting broccoli, a summer variety, should be ready much earlier than the usual type.

Planting has continued in earnest with celeriac, brussels, butternut squash and tomatoes going in.

Out in the garden we have been building a netted frame for our brassicas using bamboo, gaffa tape and netting which will hopefully keep the cabbage white catterpillars at bay, they destroyed all our cabbages last year.

Temperatures hit 18 degrees in the porch house today so we are crossing our fingers for the globe artichokes to germinate.
