Birth of a starter

Today marks the first day of our sourdough starter and is the last plum releated product of the year.The idea is that there is yeast on the surface of any fruit which can be reared into a culture which can live for decades.

We added 500g of crushed plums to the same amount of strong white flour and 500ml of water and left for three days.

It stunk the house out on top of the fridge and looked revolting but after straining and feeding it now looks happy and active

If we can keep it alive our first sourdough is on its way, now just for the name?
